Career Assessment And Guidance

SCMHRD offers career assessment and guidance to students at the institute. This service typically involves meeting with a testing consultant to decide which career-related tests would be most appropriate. A return visit is required to complete the assessment, then, a follow-up session to discuss the test results. There are scoring and materials fees associated with each test.

SCMHRD uses two popular career and personality tests to help people explore their career interests and personality traits related to careers.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII)

The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) is one of the most widely used career tests available. It is used primarily as an aid in the exploration of occupational and academic interests. It does not examine abilities or skills.

The Strong Interest Inventory® assessment is one of the world’s most widely respected and frequently used career planning tools. It has helped both academic and business organizations develop the brightest talent and has guided thousands of individuals—from high school and college students to midcareer workers seeking a change—in their search for a rich and fulfilling career. The Strong Interest Inventory® enables career guidance conversations for students and working professionals. It has found use in corporate conversations when professionals are transitioning in their careers. It is used primarily as an aid in the exploration of occupational and academic interests. The SII does not examine your abilities and skills; it is an inventory of your interests. It can tell you something about the patterns of your interests and should be considered as an introduction to career exploration. The results may tell you, for example, that your interests are similar to those of engineers who are satisfied with their career choice. The results do not tell you, for example, whether you have an aptitude for the mathematics involved in this career. The SII will ask you to indicate your preference for a wide range of occupations, school subjects, activities, and types of people. It will take about 30 minutes to complete. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality indicator that assesses four preferences of the way you interact with the world. This test can help you understand yourself as you interact and navigate in the world, including the world of work. The MBTI takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete.

The MBTI® offers individuals a unique 360-degree view of their personality types by exploring their natural choices regarding energy orientation, the ways in which they take in and process information, as well as how they relate to the outer world. The MBTI® personality inventory has a wide range of applications to enable growth and development within organizations. These include team building, conflict management, retention, leadership, career transitions and coaching.

The MBTI helps people explore where they like to focus their attention, the way they like to take in information, the way they like to decide, and the kind of lifestyle they adopt. The MBTI can facilitate your understanding of yourself as you interact and navigate your interpersonal life. The MBTI can also offer you insights as to the types of careers and work environments that may fit your preferences. This inventory does not assess your abilities or capabilities; but can offer you a point of departure for your personal and career exploration.
